About Me
Zafer Büyükkeçeci received his bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering in 2013. Following that, he completed a research master’s degree in Sociology and Demography at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona and a master’s degree in Sociology at Tilburg University in the Netherlands, finishing this double-degree program in 2015. He earned his PhD in Sociology from Humboldt University of Berlin in 2021.
After his doctoral studies, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cologne, where he was involved in the ERC-funded KINMATRIX project between 2021 and 2023. He then held positions as a postdoctoral associate and research scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research from 2023 to 2026, where he worked in particular on the ERC Synergy Grant project BIOSFER. He subsequently joined Koç University as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology. His current research focuses on family sociology, social demography, and social stratification.
